About Art Mistakes
Art Mistakes is for people who can see that a drawing or painting is wrong but cannot say why. You describe what you see, in the words you would use, and it points to the likely cause.
There are 129 entries across nine media. Each one has the fault in an artist's own words, what is happening, a test you can do in about half a minute, numbered fix steps, an honest verdict on whether the piece can be saved, and a short drill to stop it recurring.
How the advice was made
The entries were written fresh from a reading of well-known teaching sites and reference works, listed on the sources page. Ideas are combined and reworded. Difficulty, how common a fault is and how long a fix takes are estimates, and the pages say so.
The before and after pictures are diagrams of the kind of fault, drawn for this site. They are not photographs of real paintings, and they say so under each one.
